We have the historic opportunity to elect Philadelphia’s first woman for mayor. This is a race that I have paid close attention to and have been talking with my neighbors to hear their thoughts about the candidates and about what our city needs. Now, I’ve reached my decision.
The choice on May 16th is clear. Helen Gym is the mayor we need, and I’m proud to be supporting her campaign! She builds coalitions to tackle the big problems others won’t, she listens to people closest to the issues, and she delivers concrete victories for Philadelphia families.

I’m supporting Helen because I’ve seen firsthand how she works in office. Helen knows how to move power in this city, and she knows that the biggest power base in Philadelphia rests with the people. By involving the organizations and people most directly impacted by our city’s challenges, she’s demonstrated she’s a proven leader with the vision and drive to win on her agenda — an agenda that benefits and brings us all into the work.
I’ve seen directly how her tireless advocacy for our schools has elevated the issue across the city. In the last month alone, we have seen the toxic conditions and asbestos that pollute too many of our city’s schools cause shutdowns for thousands of families. We need a mayor who understands the scope of this problem and who has the strength and the vision to face it head on and to come up with a plan so this doesn’t keep happening.
As a state legislator, I know that the plans Helen has laid out for our schools are the type of leadership many in my community are looking to the city for. Her work to make South Philadelphia High School a safer place for all students is just one example of the work she’s already put in to make my community and schools a safer place.
It’s not just her vision, though. Helen is a relentless organizer with the record to prove it. From delivering historic rental protections that kept families in their homes in times of crisis, to taking on corporate interests so workers (and their families) could have fair and predictable schedules, Helen has shown that she can pull more people into City Hall to address the challenges we face, and she’s shown a determination to deliver on an agenda for working families. Her wins have become national models for other municipalities looking for solutions to some of their biggest problems. She is the leader we need right now.
What I know about Helen is that at the end of the day, she’s exactly who you want fighting for you, and alongside you . If you can, please make a donation of any amount to help elect my friend Helen Gym as our next mayor. It will help her campaign ensure that every voter knows what I know about Helen. She’s the clear choice on May 16th. [[link removed]]
