John,
This year marks the 20th year since ICE began operating. For 20 years, deportation has been a constant looming threat in New York state, cruelly tearing apart families. The collaboration between ICE and New York police and state agencies has exacerbated this, causing immigrants in New York to fear any minor interaction with local law enforcement.
That is why we are in Albany today, to demand the passage of the New York for All Act.
WHAT IS THE NEW YORK FOR ALL ACT?
The New York for All Act would broadly prohibit state and local officers from enforcing federal immigration laws, funneling people into ICE custody, and deportation proceedings. Without the passage of the Act, families remain at risk of being torn apart, undermining the social and economic well-being of immigrant communities across the state.
