Friend ,

When we launched our Spring Campaign fundraising drive last week, we set a goal of raising $80,000 by May 1.

We wanted to use this email to explain how we came up with that specific number.

It’s quite simple really. $80,000 is the amount of money we need to cover our most basic operating expenses over the next two months until our next campaign—and we do everything in our power to keep that number as low as possible.

The biggest single expense in our budget is our small, scrappy team of journalists who produce the news you rely on every day. None of them are getting rich, and they work tirelessly and with passion each and every day. They joined the Common Dreams team because they share our commitment to informing and inspiring those fighting worldwide for a better future.

What you won’t find in our budget are cushy expense accounts, frivolous expenditures, or money being skimmed away as profit for shareholders or wealthy owners. Every dollar we raise goes directly into the mission: To inform. To Inspire. To ignite change for the common good.

However, if we fall short, there’s no fat in the budget to cut. In order to remain alive, stay strong, and keep publishing, we must hit that goal. It’s as simple as that.

So we’re asking you now: Will you make a donation to help meet our do-or-die Spring Campaign goal of $80,000 by May 1? We simply can’t survive without your help.
With solidarity and gratitude,

Kimberly Monaghan
