Hello Friends,
32% of Oregon voters are under 36. 1 in 5 candidates in the 2020 Primary in Oregon are Young Democrats (18-36).
The Young Democrats of Oregon are poised to make real change in 2020. We are the largest voting block in Oregon and deserve to have a strong voice this primary cycle. That is why the Young Democrats of Oregon have decided that we will be voting on endorsements this primary cycle. The vote will be made electronically and will be sent out via email on March 11th with a week given to vote! Below is our endorsement process, step by step.
1. February 3rd: Send out the rules for endorsement to YDO general membership
2. February 4th: Send out endorsement information to candidates in selected races (will send to all democrats in that race) giving two weeks (Feb. 4th-18th) to respond and fill out our google form to officially request an endorsement.
3. February 19th: All candidate information will be sent out to YDO general membership along with the timeline (when the Campaigns Committee will advance candidates, see below).
4. March 10th: Candidate filing deadline and close of YDO endorsement requests, will send out any last endorsement inquiries in our target races if more Democrats file.
5. March 12th: Campaigns Committee will vote on candidates to advance to the Executive Committee.
6. March 16th: Exeuctive Committee will vote on candidates to advance to the general membership via an online vote.
7. March 16th: All candidates advanced by the Executive Committee will be shared with the general membership with a link to vote!
8. March 23rd: Voting closes
9. March 24th: YDO announces endorsements via email and social media!
YDO will also have our quarterly meeting on March 15th at Linn Benton Community College (time TBA). We will be voting on the following bylaws amendments which will allow YDO to make endorsements in county elections (along with the elections we can already endorse, including statewide, legislative etc.) as well as add the Executive Committee into the decision making process for endorsements. Final votes for endorsements will still be made by the General Membership.
