Hello –
As we look forward to welcoming spring – colorful blooms, warm weather – I know many of us are also apprehensive about what the future holds. From the right to choose to protecting our planet, we’re fighting on multiple fronts; but the important thing is we are fighting together, and together, we can win.
Earlier this month, an outrageous decision by a Trump-appointed federal judge took another step towards a nationwide abortion ban – a decision that flies in the face of science. And across the country, anti-abortion extremists are not only trying to bar women from having agency over our own bodies, but in some states going further to criminalize choice.
That’s why I will continue the fight for reproductive freedom for all Americans by passing the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would codify abortion access under federal law. Abortion has been a guaranteed right since 1973, and we are not going back.
This month we also celebrated our planet together through #ClimateWeek and recommitted ourselves to the fight for our environment. That’s why I am proud to have stood up and said NO to the Polluters Over People Act – a piece of legislation that would put short term Wall Street profits over protecting American families from the climate crisis and lowering home energy costs.
I ran for Congress over 10 years ago because I wanted to be a champion for our children and working families, and I will not allow these dangerous Republican efforts to put the health of our planet – and our children’s futures – at risk. That’s why I introduced the Transportation Innovation Coordination Act, to better meet our emissions reduction goals and preserve a safer, greener, future for everyone.
And lastly, right here at home in Washington state, I’ve nominated 15 community projects – totaling over $49 million – for funding in 2024. These include community centers, public safety improvements, and environmental sustainability projects to help improve the quality of life in our communities by expanding safe, reliable transportation, improving local infrastructure, and promoting access to healthy, locally sourced food.
I know the future may sometimes feel uncertain, but I will never stop fighting for a bright one for our children and grandchildren.
Thank you for standing with me.
