Friend,
Last year, Illinois became the 11th state to legalize marijuana for adult use. But 11 states is not enough. Almost 75% of all people in the United States still live in states with draconian marijuana laws.
Since Illinois legalized marijuana, we’ve seen campaigns for marijuana policy reform in other states, like Wisconsin and Florida, stymied by politicians intent on continuing this disastrous drug war.
In Wisconsin, the Governor recently called out the State Legislature for failing to pass a medical marijuana bill, despite 80% of the pubic supporting such a program. And in Florida, a new law created additional hurdles to qualify initiatives for the ballot, blocking an adult use marijuana initiative from receiving a public vote.
This senseless drug war is unrelenting. To fight it, you must be unrelenting too. Friend, that’s why I’m extending a special invitation to you today to join our Reformers Club with a monthly donation.
You understand how this is a serious problem. Two-thirds of Americans support legalizing marijuana. Yet state governments refuse to listen to their constituents and continue to waste valuable time and money arresting people, and ruining lives, for simple marijuana law violations.
But it doesn’t have to be that way, Friend. DPA has been working hard to end marijuana prohibition in places like New York – where there have been 800,000 arrests for simple marijuana possession in the past 20 years – and New Mexico. And now, the governors of both states have called for their legislatures to legalize marijuana for adult use. There’s a real chance to increase the number of legal states this year.
But we can’t do it alone. We need more engaged activists like you to join the Reformers Club. A gift of just $8.00 a month will help end marijuana prohibition in even more states, and at the federal level.
Friend, the public supports marijuana reform. We can’t let outdated drug war extremists continue to criminalize us for personal drug use and possession. I hope you’ll join the Reformers Club today to help change that.
