It’s official: Tucker Carlson is off the air.
After years of viciously targeting women, people of color, and the LGBTQ+ community, Tucker Carlson was told abruptly this morning that he no longer had a show. Reports say he never saw it coming.
Just yesterday, Alexandria called out Carlson, during an interview on Inside with Jen Psaki, saying he directly incited the violence of the January 6th insurrection. Many people have also come forward over the years to talk about the death threats they received after Carlson targeted them on his show. It’s not clear yet why Fox let Carlson go, but we do know that his dismissal is a hugely positive development for all of us fighting against hate speech.
Since getting his own show on Fox in 2016, Carlson has relentlessly spewed hate speech. He said that allowing more immigrants into our country would make the U.S. ‘poorer and dirtier’. He argued that women are ‘extremely primitive’ beings who ‘just need to be quiet and kind of do what you’re told’.
Alexandria directly challenges Tucker Carlson and all the many voices like him that are sadly still on the air. She deftly exposes their hypocrisy, calls out their racism and misogyny, and advances policy that will create the more just, inclusive world they so desperately oppose. And for this, they relentlessly attack her.
Fox News attacked Alexandria 75 times a day, on average, in 2019. Alexandria has been open about the serious impact this has had on her safety and mental health — but she has kept fighting because she knows a better world is possible.
