Our readership is as strong as ever, but fewer than 1 percent make a donation.

Friend ,

Toward the end of our last fundraising drive, we started to get pretty nervous that we wouldn’t reach our goal, and that anxiety was reflected in the emails we sent out as the deadline approached.

In the midst of that campaign, we heard from one reader who asked, “Is Common Dreams really in that much trouble? You’ve been around for over 20 years. You’re not actually going to shut down, right?”

Unfortunately, the reality is that without a last-minute surge of donations toward the end of that campaign, we were on the brink.

Make no mistake: Our readership is as strong as ever, thanks to the hard-hitting journalism our hard-working team produces every day. But the reality is that fewer than 1 percent of our readers ever make a donation, and with our costs up due to inflation, there’s no margin for error.

This week we launched our Spring Campaign fundraising drive with a goal of raising $80,000 by May 1. This is how much we need to raise to pay the bills and keep publishing until our next campaign this summer. So to keep Common Dreams alive, we’re counting on our readers to step up again.

Will you help support the progressive, independent journalism of Common Dreams by making a donation to our Spring Campaign today?
With solidarity and gratitude,

Kimberly Monaghan
Board Chair
on behalf of the entire Common Dreams team
