Also on Friday, Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves (R) signed a controversial bill into law that would create an unelected court system over parts of Jackson, the state capital. The national NAACP and Mississippi NAACP filed a lawsuit against the law, alleging that the new court system, along with a law expanding a state-run police force, violate the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment.

On Thursday, the Minnesota Senate passed an omnibus state government funding bill that includes several pro-voting election reforms. The 182-page bill already passed the House, but lawmakers must agree on the differences between each chamber’s version before it heads to Gov. Tim Walz (D) for his signature.
