Here are some updates from the last few days.

Today, Bill Barr and Karl Rove's right-wing legal group asked to file an amicus brief in lawsuits challenging Pennsylvania's policy to not count undated or wrongly dated mail-in ballots. Read more about it in our Twitter thread.

Also today, New York Gov. Kathy Hochul (D) signed the new state Assembly map proposed by the state’s redistricting commission into law.

Finally today, two of the plaintiff groups challenging Georgia’s S.B. 202 filed a renewed motion for a preliminary injunction against a portion of the law.

On Friday, the Alaska Supreme Court ruled explicitly for the first time that partisan gerrymandering violates the state constitution. This landmark ruling arises from a consolidated lawsuit challenging the state’s legislative districts drawn with 2020 census data.

Also on Friday, Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves (R) signed a controversial bill into law that would create an unelected court system over parts of Jackson, the state capital. The national NAACP and Mississippi NAACP filed a lawsuit against the law, alleging that the new court system, along with a law expanding a state-run police force, violate the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment.

On Thursday, the Minnesota Senate passed an omnibus state government funding bill that includes several pro-voting election reforms. The 182-page bill already passed the House, but lawmakers must agree on the differences between each chamber’s version before it heads to Gov. Tim Walz (D) for his signature.
