Helping Kansas Veterans

My mom served in the U.S. Army for 20 years. I learned so much about service, sacrifice, and dedication to country through her.

I’ve made it a priority to serve local veterans however I can. That’s why I worked work with Republicans and Democrats to pass the historic and bipartisan PACT Act last year. Thanks to this new law, 3.5 million veterans who were exposed to toxins overseas are eligible for the health care they deserve.

Please click here to watch our recent Facebook Live with the Kansas City VA to learn more about how local veterans can get help.

I was honored to meet with the Veterans of Foreign Wars recently at my Washington, D.C. office to learn more about their concerns.

The new law is designed to help veterans who were exposed to toxic burn pits and airborne hazards overseas access the services and health care they need.

The law is now taking effect, so my team is now working to connect area veterans with these earned benefits. In case you or someone you know is a veteran who needs assistance, here’s a quick infographic from the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) with more information:
ImageIn addition, the VA is holding two PACT Act benefits and resource fairs in the Kansas Third District in the coming weeks and months. This may be an opportunity to learn more about the law in-person. The first event is scheduled to take place in Spring Hill on June 5th.

Action to Lower Gas Prices

As the summer travel season approaches, I’m also acting to help lower gas prices in Kansas. That includes pushing for the year-round sale of fuel that’s blended with a higher volume of ethanol.

Guaranteeing E15 – a cheaper alternative fuel made in the U.S. – is available throughout the year will help lower prices. And it also helps creates opportunities for Kansas farmers and diversifies our energy market.

ImageI was glad to learn more about the Kansas Third’s energy production potential at East Kansas Agri-Energy, a Garnett-based renewable ethanol producer.

Earlier this month, foreign oil suppliers announced they would cut oil production by more than 1.6 billion barrels a day, starting in May. We must do what we can to lower gas costs now as we grapple with threats to the global supply of oil.

That’s why I’m pushing the Biden Administration to permit the sale of E15 throughout the year. I recently urged the Environmental Protection Agency to allow for the year-round sale of E15 and am supporting a bipartisan bill to make the year-round sale of this fuel permanent.

I’m pleased to say these actions are supported by the Kansas agricultural and energy communities. That includes East Kansas Agri Energy and the Renewable Fuels Association. Together, we can help lower the cost of gas and keep growing our economy by investing in U.S. made fuels.

My job is to serve every person and corner of our community, regardless of party. If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me.

My warmest regards,
