Dear John,

Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer has announced a Senate vote on the so-called Equal Rights Amendment (ERA) this week. If adopted as an amendment to the Constitution, the ERA could be used to mandate abortion funding, nullify protections for the unborn, and curtail legal protections for women.

Tell your senators to oppose the ERA and the erasure of women!

The ERA has been touted as pro-woman, yet the ERA would actually harm women. Policies put in place specifically to help women, like Title IX, could be considered unlawful under the ERA because they treat men and women differently. Protections for unborn children could be invalidated because they apply to the sexes differently (even liberals would argue before the courts that only women can become pregnant).

If this were not enough, the ERA doesn't even define the word "sex," leaving the door open for activist judges to interpret it as including a person's "gender identity," rendering the term meaningless.

All of this essentially erases the existence of women under the law.

The ERA would harm women, not help them. There is a reason why proponents failed to rally enough states to ratify it by Congress' deadline in 1979. This failed amendment needs to stay in the past, and Senator Schumer's effort to resurrect it--long past its deadline--is disingenuous, dehumanizing, and dangerous to women.

Contact your senators now and tell them that women deserve better than the misleading promises of the ERA!

Sincerely,

Your Friends at FRC Action
