John,
It is my honor to announce that the 2023 Wayne Morse Award for Integrity and Passion will be presented to Tanya Shively.
Join us on May 6th in Portland as we honor Tanya Shively and hear from Democratic Leaders at the Annual Wayne Morse Gala
A daughter of Southern Oregon, Tanya has dedicated her life to the service of others.
If you have attended a Democratic Party of Oregon event in the last 20 years, you have likely met Tanya-with a warm smile and a passion for engaging everyone in our important work of electing Democrats to Local Office.
A precinct committee person since 2003, Tanya has served in many leadership positions within the Democratic Party. In addition to local roles in Benton County, Tanya was the Secretary of the Democratic Party of Oregon from 2011 until she was elected as a Democratic National Committee Member in 2017, and served through 2020. Tanya has attended every Platform Convention since 2004, six Oregon Summits, the 2012 and 2016 Democratic National Conventions, and the 2020 Convention Across America. Tanya has made women’s rights a priority, and is a member of Planned Parenthood, NOW, and NARAL. She is also a member of the NAACP and League of Women Voters.
Many Oregon Democrats have a story of an offer of friendship and kindness from Tanya that led them into this movement, and many credit Tanya with helping to build community with the Democratic Party of Oregon, especially for rural Democrats.
I still remember when I first met Tanya, when after attending a Benton County Democrats meeting she invited me out for a drink and to socialize with other local Democrats, including her husband Stan, who we lost late last year and miss so very much. I am one of many young Democrats who chose to be active within our party because of the friendship and mentorship of leaders like Tanya.
The Wayne Morse Award for Integrity and Passion was created to honor the outstanding Democrat who best exemplifies the passion and integrity of Senator Wayne Morse. I am so proud that we are recognizing her many years of service to Oregonians with this award.
I hope you'll join me and Oregon Democrats on Saturday, May 6th. to honor and celebrate Tanya, and hear from Democratic leaders like Congresswoman Suzanne Bonamici, Congresswoman Andrea Salinas, and more.
We know it's going to be a great evening, and we want as many Oregon Democrats as possible to attend. Get your tickets at dpo.org/Morse!
See you there!
Candy Emmons
Deputy Director
