Welcome to the final week of Bridging Worlds: Exploring Latin American and Latinx Stories Across Borders and Cultures ([link removed]) , co-curated with Cinema Tropical ([link removed]) . As we come to a close, we present two moving films that shed light on the challenges faced by working-class Latinx immigrant communities in Northern California.
Crisanto Street ([link removed]) , directed by Paloma MartÃnez, follows Geovany Cesario, an eight-year-old resident of a hidden community near Silicon Valley, who uses his camera to capture his community before his family moves away. The film showcases the resilience of the Latinx community, while also highlighting the hardships and uncertainties of living in poverty. Fruits of Labor ([link removed]) , directed by Emily Cohen Ibáñez, tells the story of Ashley, a Mexican-American teenager who dreams of attending college but is forced to become the breadwinner when ICE raids threaten her family. Ashley works long hours in the strawberry fields during the day and at a food processing factory at night, all while trying to balance school and family responsibilities.
These award-winning documentaries are available for streaming on pov.org ([link removed]) and the PBS App ([link removed]) , providing a unique opportunity to explore the rich diversity of Latin American and Latinx stories.
