It’s safe to say ‘Bluey’ is no longer just a popular kids show. Its fandom — and, yes, the consistent quality of the programming — have cemented its status as a legendary kids television program, in the ranks of Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood and Sesame Street. The difference? ‘Bluey’ is still so current it has a fresh (some might say “rabid”) fan base that is very active on social media where they pore over funny moments, reminisce about favorite episodes, geek out on the music, and, yes, gossip about every piece of censorship and change happening after its initial Australian run. And there have been quite a few changes. American and Disney censors have found plenty of reasons to cut back on episodes — from fart jokes to ‘dangerous’ kids cosplay. As such a lot of what goes into the original ‘Bluey’ doesn’ make it stateside. We compiled all the censorship not to put judgment, but because we too are ‘Bluey’ fans and feel the show is worthy of discussion in both original and censored forms. |
