The Final Budget is Out!

The legislature has released their budget for the 2023-2025 biennium. We are so excited to see that this budget makes crucial investments to human services that will help low-income Washingtonians meet their basic needs, including:

- Funding for 2SHB 1447, which makes important improvements to make TANF a more effective pathway out of poverty
- Funding for ESHB 1260, which ends the unfair requirement for adults with disabilities to repay their ABD benefits to the state when they transfer onto SSI
- Increasing the TANF cash grant by 8%
- Funding the Medicaid lookalike for uninsured adults regardless of immigration status
- Funding to continue expanding access to oral health care at community health centers

These investments will provide vital assistance to low-income Washingtonians, helping our state's most vulnerable populations meet their basic needs for healthcare, dental care, housing, and more.

Join us in thanking lawmakers for making these key investments in the budget!

One sore spot in the budget is the lack of funding for broad TANF time limit exemptions based on hardship. While the budget does fund time limit exemptions for all child-only TANF cases, all other cases reaching the 60-month limit may be cut off from benefits at the end of June.

While this budget makes great investments, there remains more work to do to support low-income Washingtonians.
