Trump's tax forms offer a look into his corrupt business dealings overseas during his presidency

John, here’s a reminder: Making money from foreign countries while serving as president is not normal.

Throughout his time in office, President Trump, his family, and his Republican allies repeatedly assured the public that his refusal to divest from his businesses wouldn’t lead to any conflicts of interest. It did. (3,700 conflicts, to be exact).

Trump and his company also pledged to pause foreign business. They did not.

CREW analysis revealed that Trump made up to $160 million from foreign countries as president.

Trump used every chance he could to profit off the presidency. Here are just a few examples:

Ireland: Trump reportedly pressured the Irish prime minister to meet him at his golf club called Doonbeg, and threatened to move his visit to Scotland instead if he didn’t.
Argentina: Trump held off on enacting tariffs until after trademarks for his company had been approved.
China: Trump helped a sanctioned state-owned company called ZTE, while making millions from China and holding a Chinese bank account.

The full extent to which Trump’s foreign business ties influenced his decision making as president may never be known, but there is plenty of evidence that Trump’s actions in the White House were influenced – if not guided – by his financial interests, subverting the national interests for his own profit.

During Trump’s presidency, CREW took thousands of legal actions holding him accountable for his blatant corruption and violations of the law. We will continue to do so as long as it takes to ensure that he never abuses that power again.
