The U.S. Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI), the International Refugee Assistance Project (IRAP), and the Human Security Initiative (HUMSI) will discuss their recent joint report “Climate of Coercion: Environmental and Other Drivers of Cross-Border Displacement in Central America and Mexico” during a webinar on April 27, 2023, at 12 p.m. ET.
The webinar will cover the overlap of climate-related displacement and the underlying persecution asylum seekers face in their countries of origin, as demonstrated through field research conducted this year in Tijuana, Mexico. Panelists will also discuss the impact of climate change on migration to the United States-Mexico border, as well as policies to enhance humanitarian protection for forcibly displaced persons affected by climate change.
