CEP-GLOBSEC Webinar: Mapping Violent Right-Wing Extremist Groups – Who’s Who
In The Czech Republic And Slovakia

(New York, N.Y./Berlin, Germany/Bratislava, Slovakia) – The Counter Extremism
Project (CEP) and GLOBSEC invite you to a webinar discussing violent right-wing
extremist groups in the Czech Republic and Slovakia, including their financial
networks.

There has been a noted presence of violent right-wing extremist groups in
Central Europe since the 1990s. However, in recent years, these movements have
become increasingly vocal, active, engaged, and violent. The global COVID-19
pandemic as well as the war in Ukraine have added additional themes to their
ideological messages, or ‘alternative narratives’, as some right-wing movements
choose to label them.

More importantly, some of their radical messaging have now entered the
political mainstream. All Central European countries are experiencing similar
developments in this regard, despite their historical, national, and cultural
differences.

There are common elements among these movements, including attempts to form
paramilitary organizations and conduct training as well as calls for renewing
‘traditional’ family values. The anti-immigration, anti-Muslim, anti-EU, and
anti-Roma themes have been broadened to include anti-vaccine, anti-LGBTQ, and
anti-NATO attitudes. The ongoing war in the Ukraine has galvanized right-wing
groups even more. Clearly, there is more to Central European right-wing
movements than meets the eye.

This webinar is the second of a two-part series on Central European extreme
right-wing movements. The first one on April 14 focused on right-wing extremist
networks in Bulgaria and Hungary. This second webinar will give an overview of
the current situation in the Czech Republic and Slovakia.

The webinar will be conducted in English via Zoom.
