This week, House Republicans passed a monumental piece of legislation to secure fundamental women's rights. Across the country, young women, who have often trained for years in a particular sport, are being cheated out of medals and trophies when they are forced to compete against biological males. As a physician, I know there is an absolute competitive advantage that an XY individual - regardless of any hormonal manipulation - has over a genotypic female. That’s why I joined House Republicans in passing the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. I honestly cannot believe this is an actual issue we are debating in the United States, and the fact that not a single Democrat voted in favor of this bill is a shocking disgrace to women everywhere. I was thrilled this week to have the opportunity to meet two very special constituents - our Congressional App Challenge winners, Ethan and Emily! This brother/sister duo of Hope Middle School traveled to Washington this week to showcase their app: Recycler 101. Their innovative app informs people what they can and can’t recycle and gives helpful instructions on how they can do so. Please join me in congratulating these bright young app developers! I look forward to seeing all that they will accomplish in the future!

A groundbreaking milestone was passed recently in Eastern North Carolina. Coach Vincent of the J.H. Rose Baseball team won his 1000th game last week! You’d be hard pressed to find a more accomplished coach in all of North Carolina. In his 50+ year career, Coach Vincent has won 1,000 games and 7 state titles. More importantly, he’s played an important role in developing GENERATIONS of young men in Eastern North Carolina. His passion for the game and mentoring of young men sets an example that all walks of life can follow. Thank you, Coach Vincent, and good luck on the rest of this season!

I wanted to update you on an important upcoming event happening in the District.

My office will be hosting a Service Academy Day on Saturday, April 29th at Craven Community College in New Bern. Interested students, parents, and educators are welcome to attend to learn more about the Service Academies, better understand the application and nomination process, and speak with Service Academy representatives.
