,
Last month, NPR announced that it would cut roughly 10 percent of its current workforce in one of its largest layoffs ever.
NPR is not alone. In recent months, Vox Media slashed 7 percent of its staff. NBC News and MSNBC laid off roughly 75 people. Gannett and The Washington Post announced cuts as well. BuzzFeed News just shut down entirely.
While Common Dreams is in many ways very different from these other news outlets, we are not immune to the same economic pressures affecting NPR and others. For instance, inflation is driving up our costs and making it harder for people to donate.
With democracy under attack and the climate in crisis, the last thing we need is further decline in the volume and quality of journalism. That’s why, as we launch our Spring Campaign and prepare for a rocky road ahead, it’s absolutely critical that we meet our goal of raising $80,000 by May 1.
Will you help support the progressive, independent journalism of Common Dreams by making a donation to our Spring Campaign today?
