Council’s Comprehensive Policing and Justice Reform Emergency Amendment Act of 2022. Democrat politicians in cities like New York and D.C. have continuously fed anti-police sentiment that endangers our officers and make it harder for them to do their jobs. Policies like those in D.C.’s deeply misguided police reform law only empower criminals at the expense of our men and women in blue. With the passage of this resolution, Andrew and his colleagues in the House sent a message that they will not stand by while our law enforcement officers are vilified and handcuffed by pro-criminal/anti-cop legislation. Learn more here. ANDREW IN THE NEWS Garbarino leads 45 colleagues in proposing bipartisan bill to permit SALT deductions " U.S. Rep. Andrew Garbarino (R-NY) on April 10 led a bipartisan group of 45 lawmakers in introducing legislation that would allow taxpayers to fully deduct their state and local taxes (SALT) on their federal income returns. The Securing Access to Lower Taxes by ensuring Deductibility Act, H.R. 2555, also known as the SALT Deductibility Act, is sponsored by Rep. Garbarino and would apply to taxable years beginning after Dec. 31, 2022, according to the text of the bill. “The SALT deduction cap has devastated my community by placing an unfair financial burden on Long Islanders and on taxpayers across the country,” said Rep. Garbarino during an April 15 press conference on Long Island alongside fellow New York members and cosponsors of the legislation, U.S. Reps. Anthony D’Esposito (R-NY) and Nick LaLota (R-NY). WHAT'S NEW IN NY-02 Andrew Helps Get Unused Prescription Drugs Out of Our Community Yesterday was National Drug Take Back Day, a DEA initiative which aims to provide a safe, convenient, and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs, while also educating the general public about the potential for abuse of medications. Andrew helped collect unused prescriptions at Sayville's Community Ambulance while community groups were onsite to provide information on prevention and counseling and free Narcan kits. You can find information on collection sites, resources, and treatment information at takebackday.dea.gov Andrew Host Annual Autism Awareness Event Andrew was pleased to host the 3rd Annual Autism Celebration at the Bohemia Fire Department alongside local elected officials and community groups to spread autism awareness throughout NY-02. The Community Ambulance Company was on site to provide life-saving strap covers for children and adults with Autism, Suffolk County Police Department 5th Precinct provided Child ID Kits, and the Suffolk County Sheriff's Office Health and Wellness team stopped by to say hello. Catholic Health To Host Baby Shower For Expecting Mothers Andrew is sharing an announcement from Catholic Health's Mercy Hospital about an upcoming Baby Shower event for moms-to be on Saturday, May 13th from 12pm – 2pm. Expecting mothers will have the opportunity to meet with physicians and health care professionals, other moms, and gain information for their delivery and beyond. You can sign up here. KEEPING UP WITH CONGRESS Andrew Questions DHS Secretary At Homeland Security Hearing Securing our cyber border is critical to our National Security in the face of rising threats from Russia, China, and other adversaries. During a Homeland Security Committee hearing earlier this week on the proposed Fiscal Year 2024 budget for the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Andrew pressed Secretary Mayorkas about the delayed delivery of several reports to Congress that will help the committee ensure the success of cybersecurity efforts. Andrew Holds Panel on The Future of Work The future of work is changing which is why Andrew, as co-chair of the Future of Work Caucus, held a panel this week to explore advancements made in augmented and virtual reality technology and their applications to upskilling America’s workforce across industries - from healthcare to manufacturing. They heard from a panel of experts on the development of this technology, the need for increased workforce training, and use cases with demonstrated results. Andrew Joins Friends of Ireland Caucus Andrew joined the Friends of Ireland Caucus, a Congressional Caucus formed in the early 1980s to recognize the unique relationship between our two great countries, and demonstrate our nation’s support for a just, lasting, and peaceful settlement to the conflict in Northern Ireland.
