Hey John,
We need YOU to take action against the dairy industry!
The dairy industry is inherently violent. Cows used in order to produce and sell dairy products are held captive and exploited their entire lives. Their cries are silenced, their babies are stolen, and their lives are destroyed. But we hear their cries and we will speak out for them until they are safe, happy and free. During this action we will bring multiple real life sized hutches to bring awareness about the horrors behind the dairy industry. Join us at our Shut It Down: Let Dairy Die action on February 8th, 2:30-4:30 PM; we will meet at 40 Lombard St. in San Francisco.
If you're interested in getting more involved in this active community, apply to become a chapter member at dxe.io/apply.
Here are the other events we have happening this week (all taking place at the Berkeley Animal Rights Center, 2425 Channing Way, unless otherwise noted). Action events are highlighted in blue and community events are highlighted in orange -- both are crucial to our movement!
- Tuesday, February 4th, 1:30 PM: Support the Right to Rescue Resolution in San Francisco - The San Francisco Board of Supervisors will be discussing a resolution to support the activists facing charges in Sonoma County. We want to show that people care about this issue. We will be attending their meeting and speaking in support, and we need YOU there! Passing this resolution could help us establish the right to rescue animals. We will meet at City Hall, 1 Dr. Carlton B. Goodlett Place, San Francisco.
- Friday, February 7th, 5 PM: DxE vs. Big Ag Projection at Oakland First Fridays - On December 31st, Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) released the powerful and visionary video of challenging Animal Ag and risking everything to win #RightToRescue. We will go to Oakland to outreach and inspire folks to make that vision a reality in 2020! People of ALL different comfort levels are welcome to outreach or support —if you want to see every animal live happy, safe and free, we want you to stand with us! We will project a large image of DxE vs Big Ag video on a blank wall along with audio for folks passerby to watch and listen. We will talk to those who stop and provide information as well opportunities for them to get involve in the animal rights movement. We will meet at Telegraph Avenue and West Grand Avenue.
- Saturday, February 8th, 11:00am: Meetup: Failure is the Path to Success- Don’t let failure get you down - learn why Johanna sees failure as the path to success! She’ll talk about why appreciating failure can help you accomplish your goals. We’ll explore practices that can help you cope with failure when it does happen, and help with picking yourself up and moving forward. Brunch will also be announced soon and as always there will be fresh, hot coffee!
- Saturday, February 8th, 6:00 PM: Vegan Lunar New Year Potluck - What's essentially an annual tradition has come back to the Berkeley Animal Rights Center! The Lunar New Year (also commonly known as Chinese New Year) and Year of the Rat is here so come celebrate the cultures that have had some of the oldest traditions of harmony with animals and veganism! In true Chinese family tradition; we will be having a FAMILY-style dinner where we all sit and share food together. We will have festival decorations in the spirit of the Lunar New Year. If you can, bring a vegan Asian dish to share!
- Sunday, February 9th, 11:00 AM: Pigeon First Aid: February - Every day there are hundreds of birds throughout the city of San Francisco who have strings and hair tightly wrapped around their toes, causing immense pain. Eventually their toes lose circulation, become amputated, or develop severe infections. We can help our bird friends by removing the string before the damage becomes too serious, providing medical care, and releasing them back to their flocks! Come join us at this clinic to get hands-on practice with pigeon first aid. No experience needed! We will be meeting outside the Strand Theater near Civic Center Bart Station.
