John, this Earth Day, let’s cut through the jargon when we talk about climate change.
What is “carbon capture technology”? It’s literally trees. 🌳🌲🌳
In my city of Newark and urban communities across the country, we’re planting trees — part of a $1.5 billion investment we made in last year’s Inflation Reduction Act to increase urban nature.
In fact, this entire effort to plant trees in cities kicked off earlier this month in Newark — where we planted its very first tree.
Trees help to alleviate so many of the costs, health, and environmental challenges that people are currently dealing with.
That’s why for years, I’ve introduced bipartisan legislation to plant at least 300,000 trees in residential neighborhoods, and believe we need to do more — restoring 2 million acres of coastal wetlands this decade and planting 15 billion trees by 2050.
John, add your name to my Earth Day petition if you agree that the Senate must go even further. Let’s build on last year’s Inflation Reduction Act with more bold climate solutions like this across the country.
Trees by themselves create some of the biggest impacts on our environment. Just see for yourself:
🌳 Trees save families money in heating and cooling costs.
🌳 Trees reduce air and water pollution.
🌳 Trees decrease the risk of respiratory illnesses like asthma.
🌳 Trees reduce flooding and protect people from extreme heat.
The bottom line is: Trees are some of the most obvious, most important, and most effective tools we have to address climate change, defray its costs, and alleviate the health problems it causes — particularly in urban communities.
If you agree that the Senate should pass more legislation to kickstart environmental restoration across the country, add your name to my Earth Day petition today.
Thanks for raising your voice and speaking up.
With love and gratitude,
Cory
