Hello Friend, Today, April 22nd, is Earth Day. On every April 22nd, for the last 53 years, public events have been held to increase awareness of the urgent need to protect Mother Earth. Across Canada, Green Party volunteers have created local events that focus on the climate crisis. From Newfoundland and Labrador to Vancouver Island, we are calling for "All hands on deck!" We are asking Canadians to sign up for real climate action by taking this pledge: I commit to meaningful climate action. That means shrinking my personal carbon foot print (driving less, improving energy efficiency of my home, shopping with climate in mind, reducing consumption). That means increasing my personal political footprint – making more noise in demanding an end to billions of dollars to Big Oil, stopping new fossil fuel infrastructure like the TMX pipeline, aborting the planned drilling off-shore in Bay du Nord and getting a national ban on fracking. That means calling for a bright new economic future with renewable energy, local sources of renewables, a national decarbonized electricity grid, and bringing clean and renewable energy from coast to coast to coast. I will vote for candidates and parties that understand the climate emergency requires the planned shut-down of fossil fuels. All hands on deck for climate action! Count me in! Can we count on you? Please take the pledge. Please help us expand the grassroots Green movement. Help us hold more events to educate and empower Canadians to take action. Donate now. Donate your time and energy. Donate dollars. Opposition to climate action is very well-funded. Please help us defeat these powerful special interests! DonateCan you think of anything more important than ensuring our children have a liveable world? Can you think of any action more meaningful than protecting Mother Earth? And while we have time to make a difference, it is critical to respond to the call - All hands on deck! Happy Earth Day! Elizabeth, Elizabeth E. May, O.C. |
