Hi team —
Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court extended the stay on the abortion pill case out of Texas.
What that means for right now is that people will continue to have access to the FDA-approved medication mifepristone.
But I’m not just thinking about this immediate, temporary win. What I’m thinking about is that every week, we get a news alert on our cell phone or an update from a news anchor about changes to our fundamental freedoms. And it just can’t keep happening.
Reproductive rights are being juggled by conservative judges and used as bargaining chips by far-right politicians. Instead of being able to rely on their own decision-making and the guidance of doctors for personal health care decisions, women are waiting to hear what judges and politicians are deciding for them.
The decision from the Supreme Court doesn’t change my feelings: Women, not unelected judges or Washington politicians, should make these decisions.
But it’s increasingly clear that far-right extremists won’t stop until they ban abortion nationwide. They’ll use legal tactics and maneuvering to try to get ahead of the patriots on our side trying to defend and protect these freedoms.
That’s why I’m continuing my efforts to defend reproductive rights in Congress. Last week, I introduced the Protecting Reproductive Freedom Act, which reaffirms that the Food and Drug Administration, not extremist judges or far-right politicians, has the ultimate and final authority to regulate abortion medication.
I’m keeping up the fight for these freedoms, and I hope you’ll support these efforts by chipping into my campaign today. Any contribution helps our work to protect these fundamental rights.
Thank you for your support. I’m more emboldened than ever to pass legislation to protect these rights once and for all.
Yours in service,
Pat
