Dear Friend, |
In only two years, we’ve lost 25% of the manatees on Florida’s east coast. |
Unchecked pollution is killing the manatees’ food source, and as a result they are starving to death at unprecedented rates. This is simply unacceptable. |
Earthjustice is suing the EPA for failing to revisit Florida’s water quality standards and failing to protect the manatees — and we need your support. When you donate today, your Earth Day gift will be matched $2:$1 to power our work on this and hundreds of other important cases. |
|
Almost 10 years ago, the EPA approved Florida’s water quality criteria for the Indian River Lagoon, concluding that it would not “adversely affect” the manatees. |
Since then, fertilizer, sewage, and manure have polluted the waters and caused massive algae outbreaks that kill seagrass — an important food source for manatees. |
Manatees were already a threatened species, and now their numbers are dwindling at an alarming rate. They are just one of a million species that could be extinct in our lifetime, and we have a duty to protect them. |
Earthjustice is fighting for the manatees, and to protect species biodiversity, with every legal tool we have. We represent our clients for free, because the earth needs a good lawyer. |
Donors like you are the reason we can work on hundreds of cases like this one, to persevere and prove that we still have hope for a healthier, more equitable planet. |
This Earth Day, I’m asking for your support to protect our planet. When you donate, your gift will be matched $2:$1 to triple your impact towards this fight. Please, meet this moment with us. |

I am so grateful for your support and determination. Together, we can continue to protect the manatees and all species at risk of extinction. |
