John, back in 1970 I celebrated the first-ever Earth Day as a young man. I was in California, serving our nation as a naval flight officer, seeing so much of our country (and the world) for the very first time.

America is amazingly and boundlessly beautiful. From the wide open spaces of the West to the diverse ecosystem of the Chesapeake Bay in my home state, I believe that America is the most beautiful country on Earth. Having all this beauty and all these habitats is a great joy and privilege, but it is also a heavy responsibility.

On that very first Earth Day, I remember feeling so much hope as our country came together to commit to the future of our planet. As we celebrate Earth Day all these years later, I'm still filled with that same hope – but also a deep, growing worry.

Every year, the fight against climate change becomes more urgent and more dire. The UN's latest call for action makes it clear that this isn't a battle that we can kick down the road or slowly win over the next few decades. There are only a couple of years left to avoid a catastrophic climate future.

As chairman of the Senate Environment and Public Works Committee, I'm doing everything I can to protect the future of our one and only planet. And I know I'm not alone in this fight – roughly three in five voters support climate resilience legislation, conservation efforts, and serious investments to stop climate change.

Americans are all in on this fight. But to overcome the gridlock in Washington and ensure that we have the votes to win this battle, I need your help. Please, will you make a donation today to elect leaders who will protect our planet, tackle the climate crisis, and make real investments in the communities most impacted by pollution and climate change?
