Today is Earth Day – a day when communities worldwide celebrate our commitment to climate action. We’re leading the way here in Washington in the fight against climate change. As the chair of the State Senate’s Energy, Environment, and Technology Committee, every day for me is Earth Day.
This is the first year we have revenue from the Climate Commitment Act. We’re investing over $1 billion in clean energy infrastructure, salmon habitat restoration, and Indigenous communities on the frontlines of the climate crisis.
This session, we passed legislation to help our state plan better for our future energy needs and make building clean energy projects more efficient. Building clean energy infrastructure is critical to meeting our ambitious decarbonization goals.
All of this work is to protect our people and our planet – to leave a cleaner, greener world for the generations to come. And this work is far from over, but today, we honor our progress and renew our commitment to taking bold climate action.
