Happy Earth Day, John!
Earth Day began long before I was born. It was part protest, part political campaign, part cultural celebration. What started at the grassroots level led to passage of our most important federal environmental laws. With a “code red” climate emergency in our midst, we must to do all we can to keep that legacy strong today. That’s why I am proud to serve as your new Chair for the Environmental Caucus of the DPO.
Our Caucus regularly engages with voters and elected officials at the local, state, and federal levels to push for solutions that will cool our climate, clean our air, protect our water, and secure a future for endangered species like salmon. Our political agenda was developed through a months-long statewide listening tour, engaging Oregonians about your environmental priorities and how we can build power for action.
What we heard loud and clear:
- Transition to renewable energy in ways that create good union jobs and uplift communities,
-
Conserve clean water, and
- Maximize carbon sequestration by taking better care of our forest and farm lands.
You can read all about our statewide listening series and about our platform here!
Acting to protect our planet means getting our hands dirty…and I don’t just mean in the garden! Door knocking, signature gathering, grassroots fundraising, phoning lawmakers, recruiting and running candidates, electing leaders, and more.
The Democratic Party of Oregon Environmental Caucus is your home base to get involved in these kinds of actions - and we need your support to build our movement.
This Earth Day, I hope you'll join us with a contribution. Your support helps us contact voters, educate elected officials, and elect pro-climate candidates year round!
