Happy Earth Day, john!
In Washington's 8th District, we are surrounded by some of the most beautiful wilderness our country has to offer. But we've also seen the effects of climate change firsthand – from destructive wildfires and new diseases affecting crops and trees, to warmer temperatures in our tributaries and species extinction.
Climate change is the greatest moral and existential issue of our time, and we only have a few years to make major changes before we see irreversible and profound damage to our environment. We can't continue to drag our feet on this issue any longer–which is why, as your congresswoman, I will always fight for bold solutions to protect our planet.
Combating the climate crisis has long been an important issue for me. Prior to attending medical school, I spent a year working at the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Now, I'm working in Congress to protect our planet for generations to come.
Over the past few years, I helped pass the Inflation Reduction Act, which makes the single largest investment in climate solutions ever. I also helped pass the bipartisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act which included provisions I championed to make our forests more resilient to wildfires, protect our rivers and streams, and more. But we still have a lot of work ahead of us.
As co-chair of the House Sustainable Energy and Environment Coalition’s Climate and Agriculture Task Force, I'm working to make sure the 2023 Farm Bill includes provisions that are great for both our farmers and the planet.
I'm ready to keep working to reduce carbon emissions, protect public lands, and mitigate climate change impacts. But I know that the only way we're going to enact lasting changes that will fight climate change is if we all work together. This Earth Day, I hope you'll join me in recommitting to the fight to protect our environment for generations to come.
Thank you,
Kim
