John,
First, the Supreme Court overturned the federal right to abortion established by the 50-year old Roe v. Wade decision last summer, ripping away the right to choice for millions.
Then, a conservative Texas judge recently ruled to overturn FDA approval of mifepristone, an extremely common and safe abortion medication that’s been approved and on the market for the last 20 years.
Now, the U.S. Supreme Court stepped in and blocked the lower court’s decision, which means mifepristone remains FDA approved, for now.
This decision could have presented a very real danger to New Mexicans’ reproductive freedoms despite our state protections. Had SCOTUS supported the original decision, they would have ripped away access to a medication that is safer than Tylenol, Ibuprofen, penicillin, and Viagra, and used in more than half of abortions in addition to miscarriages.
We may have won this time, but these extreme attacks on our basic rights and healthcare are only getting worse.
That’s why it’s CRITICAL we continue to have a pro-choice representative of NM-02 in Congress — especially since my far-right opponent Yvette Herrell has already double-downed on her anti-choice stance.
I will ALWAYS defend your right to choose and access the reproductive health care you and your families need. Will you help protect this seat from anti-choice Herrell by chipping in $10 or more right now?
