Happy Earth Day, John!
When I first ran for Congress in 2018, I made addressing climate change a centerpiece of my campaign. I'm an environmental attorney by background, and as a resident of a coastal district, we're in a unique position regarding the climate crisis.
I even recall one conservative publication saying I was taking a "gamble" by making the environment a central focus of my campaign. The implication was that if I wanted to win swing voters, talking too much about climate would be a risk.
I didn't see it that way, and neither did voters in my community.
"Democrat candidate gambles on climate change in GOP's most vulnerable California district."
In fact, I think the biggest gamble we can possibly make is to ignore the climate crisis and the importance of accelerating our transition to a clean energy future.
I’m proud to say that after four years in Congress, my priorities haven’t changed, and we’ve come a long way. Last year, we made the largest investment in history to fight climate change and cut carbon emissions with the passage of the Inflation Reduction Act.
Progress is being made, and our work is only beginning.
If we want to continue our good work on the environment, we need to elect (and re-elect) members committed to this issue. That includes me, John. On this Earth Day, will you make a contribution to our re-election campaign to help us continue addressing the climate crisis?
