** Interior could face subpoenas

Monday, February 3, 2020
House Natural Resources Committee ([link removed])

As early as this week, the House Natural Resources Committee, led by Chairman Raúl Grijalva, could vote to subpoena ([link removed]) information from the Interior Department. Grijalva has threatened to issue a subpoena for information ([link removed]) related to the recent Bureau of Land Management headquarters relocation when the documents provided to Congress did not provide a complete picture of the decisions that went into the move.

If Grijalva gets the votes, the committee could move forward with subpoenas related to a number of issues following stonewalling from Interior Department officials. In December 2019, Grijalva said ([link removed]) his efforts to gather information from Interior have been thwarted and that the committee has "more than enough ample reason to pursue" a subpoena. At a past hearing, minority member Rep. Tom McClintock said ([link removed]) that both sides of the aisle "recognize the role of oversight, and are frustrated when legitimate requests, bipartisan requests are made and not answered."

Quote of the day

That’s why I’ve introduced the Thirty by Thirty Resolution to Save Nature — a resolution to set a national goal of protecting 30% of our lands and waters by 2030, with half protected by mid-century. The resolution reflects the will of the scientific community, including and scientists like E.O. Wilson, who say that we need to protect half the planet to save the whole."
