This critical Judiciary Committee vote follows the first Committee hearing on gun violence prevention in a decade at last month’s March For Our Lives: PA Advocacy Day. And the upcoming House floor vote will be the first vote since we achieved a gun safety House majority earlier this year. Finally, after years of work, we’ll see votes on Safe Storage, Lost & Stolen Reporting, Extreme Risk Protection Orders, and Universal Background Check legislation.
I can’t stress enough how important it is that you speak out now and continue building on our collective work that has been vital in laying this foundation. We’re on the cusp of historic progress, but we cannot take anything for granted. This is the time to leave it all on the field.
Maybe you’ve been a dedicated gun violence prevention advocate for years, feeling intense frustration and pain as we’ve watched for too long as elected officials callously ignored our demands, cynically blocked votes on life-saving bills, and reprehensibly allowed our children and community members to die in a worsening epidemic. Or maybe you’re newer to our movement, spurred to take a stand against a crisis that now endangers and traumatizes us all. No matter where you are in your gun violence prevention advocacy journey – I want to thank you for helping us reach this crucial moment. We could not have gotten here without you.
There is hope on the horizon. But only if you speak out, take action right now, and stay dedicated to this movement over the coming months.
Sincerely,
Adam Garber
