Fellow Conservative,

In 1973, The Heritage Foundation was founded with the mission of building an America where freedom, opportunity, prosperity and civil society flourish. This week, we were proud to celebrate 50 years of The Heritage Foundation and their many contributions to the conservative movement.

Since the founding of Heritage Action in 2010, we have worked tirelessly with the grassroots to take the research and policy recommendation of The Heritage Foundation and turn it into action. Furthermore, we advocate for you so that your voices are heard loud and clear.

This week provides numerous examples of how conservative grassroots policies are making conservative policy ideas a reality.

Washington’s spending addiction has continued for far too long, pushing the national debt limit to the max; the national debt has reached $31.4 trillion.

Heritage Action has been pushing hard for strong spending cuts and reforms and now, House Republicans have introduced a bill that would make significant progress in prioritizing fiscal sanity.

The Limit, Save, Grow Act would save an estimated $4.5 trillion over the next 10 years — a historic and commendable amount. This measure includes the recommendations of Heritage Action and grassroots conservatives to rein in the bureaucratic state and put the American economy on a path to recovery.

The Limit, Save, Grow Act includes provisions to:

  • Cap overall federal spending at FY 2022 levels
  • Institute annual limits on budget growth
  • Repeal Biden’s student loan “forgiveness”
  • Rescind unspent COVID-19 emergency response funding
  • Repeal funding for the 87,000 new IRS agents who Democrats are trying to hire

It would also include numerous pro-growth policies including the deregulation of energy production in America, and restoring certain work requirements for SNAP welfare benefits.

Every day, the American people feel the pain of inflation and an economy on the brink of recession. The country needs bold and responsible action to recover. This package will put us on the right path.

On Thursday, the House of Representatives, in an effort led by conservatives, took action to affirm that women and girls deserve fair and safe opportunities in sports. The Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act restores the integrity of Title IX by ensuring that female student athletes only compete against other female athletes.

The bill was introduced in the House by Rep. Greg Steube (R-Fla.) and is being championed by Sen. Tommy Tuberville (R-Ala.) in the Senate.

Female athletes across the country have been subjected to unfair athletic competition against men, and are ridiculed as extremist when they speak out. It is completely unacceptable for women to be abandoned to the woke mob's attempts to blur the line between male and female.

After Biden’s multiple attempts to redefine the definition of male and female under Title IX, it became obvious that congressional action was necessary to prevent further attempts.

How Heritage Action builds support for key legislation>>> Last Congress, we identified this bill as important and issued a Key Vote cosponsorship, encouraging members of Congress to sign on as cosponsors. All last Congress, we helped build support for this bill, and when Republicans took the House in 2023, we again issued a Key Vote in support.

Not all good bills receive a vote, but by building a coalition of legislators in support, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act (H.R. 734) received a vote and was passed by the House.

They also discussed the corruption of the Department of Justice, the threat from Communist China, and the pivotal fight over spending and the debt ceiling.

On Wednesday, the Senate voted on a Congressional Review Act (CRA) resolution of disapproval that would block the Department of Veterans Affairs’ (VA) interim final rule to provide taxpayer-funded abortions to retired service members, their spouses, and their dependents.

This rule is in direct violation of the Veterans Health Care Act of 1992 (VHCA) which prohibits taxpayer funding for abortions. It is a clear extension of Biden’s extreme partisan desire to keep the Left’s anti-life agenda alive.

Unfortunately, this resolution failed to pass in the Senate. The resolution was supported by one Democrat, Sen. Joe Manchin (D-W.Va.), but Republicans Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) and Susan Collins (R-Maine) voted against the resolution.

Their two “no” votes prevented the resolution from passing and allows President Biden to continue using the VA to spend taxpayer dollars to provide elective abortions.

By every available metric, the southern border is in a state of chaos, and the Biden Administration is to blame. In response, Republicans running for Congress last year promised the American people to pass legislation in the House to address this national security, economic, and humanitarian crisis.

House Republicans advanced a key part of their border security mandate this week during a Judiciary Committee legislative markup of H.R. 2640, The Border Security and Enforcement Act.

This bill includes important provision that would:

  • Combat asylum fraud by reforming what can be considered a proper claim to asylum,
  • End parole abuse
  • Stop the smuggling and exploitation of children who are trafficked across the border by cartels
  • Mandate e-verify as a method of verifying the citizenship status of potential employees.

Next week, the Homeland Security Committee will hold a similar legislative markup to advance additional legislative provisions to secure the border (each committee—Judiciary and Homeland Security—has jurisdiction over separate areas of law. The work of both committees is needed to pass a robust border security package in the House).

When the policies from these two committees are combined into a single robust bill and passed, Republicans in the House will have demonstrated a true commitment to securing America’s border.

America’s grassroots truly have the power to hold Congress accountable. Passing a robust border security bill in the House would be further proof of the power your voice has.
