Dear friends,
Happy Earth Day! Wanted to share that we're on a mission to expose the challenges New York faces from climate change, as well as highlight opportunities for how local leaders can better prepare our region for the future.
Earlier this year, we hired a full-time reporter, Mariana Simões, to expand our climate and environment coverage ([link removed]) . You may have heard her on WNYC's Brian Lehrer Show this week discussing this in-depth investigation on Manhattan's Hudson Yards ([link removed]) , which calls itself a model neighborhood for energy efficiency. But public data paints a different picture: City Limits analyzed energy consumption records for dozens of the neighborhood’s green-boasting buildings and found that fewer than half had scored above the median under the city’s own rating system.
We spent weeks investigating this story—reviewing city records, speaking with experts, and hitting the neighborhood’s streets—in order to uncover this environmental issue. On Earth Day, will you support our local independent journalism and help us continue to tell stories like this one?
