Breaking news, John:
The U.S. Supreme Court just ruled in favor of the U.S. Department of Justice and blocked a lower court’s decision that would have removed FDA approval for mifepristone, one of the most common and safest medications used for abortion and miscarriages.
This victory is a welcome surprise, given that SCOTUS scrapped 50 years of legal precedent when they overturned Roe v. Wade last summer, putting the right to abortion for millions of Americans at risk.
For now, mifepristone remains safe, legal, and accessible at the federal level!
Like Wes said the other day, the right to choose is exactly that — a right. And in our Maryland, we will always defend that right.
That’s why our administration began preparing to stockpile mifepristone for up to three years to ensure Marylanders could access it regardless of this court decision. We also support legislation to expand abortion access, protect the privacy of patients and providers, make Maryland a safe haven for out-of-state residents seeking abortion care, and enshrine the right to abortion in our state constitution.
Mifepristone is safe — for now. But the battle is far from over: we know the far-right’s attacks on choice will only continue. If you stand with us, consider splitting $10 or more toward our campaign and Planned Parenthood to keep up the fight for reproductive choice and abortion rights.

Maryland is leading on this issue, and as long as Wes and I are serving you, we will protect your right to safe, accessible abortion and reproductive healthcare.
Thank you,
