Earth Day 2023: Metro?s investments in a sustainable future

As we celebrate Earth Day 2023 on April 22, King County Metro understands our role in meeting the challenge of climate change in our region. ?Invest in Our Planet? will remain the theme for 2023 and Metro will maintain its focus on our investments in helping reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

The most visible investment we are making can be seen in our buses. But the changes taking place in our facilities and the expansion of our mobility services providing riders with greater options on leaving their vehicles at home are just as vital.

For more information on investments in our buses, infrastructure, saving energy and money, and providing greater mobility options, visit our Metro Matters blog [ [link removed] ].?

Eastlake Layover Facility update
computer generated photo of future Eastlake Layover facility, pictured as a modern style, grey building

King County Metro is building a layover facility along Eastlake Avenue. It will consist of 11 bus layover spaces and provide a place for operators to take breaks and access safe restroom facilities.

The location, between Roy and Republican streets on state-owned land near Interstate 5, is a focal point for transportation: people driving vehicles, walking, or riding bicyclesMap of the Eastlake Layover Facility location while interacting with buses on layover. The facility will take coaches out of the flow of traffic within this busy corridor.

Construction is underway and is slated to be completed by summer of 2024.
