Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes YES to Pass the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act Greetings! I wanted to take a moment to share with you a recap on what happened last week in Texas' 22nd District and the United States House of Representatives. This Week in Washington Rep. Troy E. Nehls Hears from Victims of New York Crime at House Judiciary Committee Field Hearing in Manhattan As a member of the House Judiciary Committee, I am proud to shine a light on the failures of the Biden Administration and George Soros-funded DAs like Alvin Bragg. The Judiciary Committee held its second, of what I hope to be many, field hearings around the country to hear testimonies from people directly affected by America Last policies of the radical Left. The people of New York, and Americans across the country, deserve a justice system that holds criminals accountable and keeps Americans safe. From the border crisis to rampant crime, my colleagues and I are committed to holding the Left accountable for their policy failures. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Speaks at Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation Hearing This week, the Transportation and Infrastructure Subcommittee on Aviation held a hearing on the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Reauthorization: Examining the Current and Future Challenges Facing the Aerospace Workforce. The FAA Reauthorization allocates funding for the aerospace industry and is typically authorized every five years. During this hearing I spoke about the severe pilot shortage crippling aviation travel and my bill H.R.1761, the Let Experienced Pilots Fly Act of 2023. This legislation would raise the mandatory retirement age for commercial airline pilots from 65 to 67. This change not only creates a new supply of desperately needed experienced pilots for our regional and commercial airlines, but it also allows pilots to retire and obtain their full social security benefits. This legislation requires pilots to maintain the same rigorous health, training, and performance standards as any other pilot in the industry. While pilots are forced to retirement at age 65 for commercial airlines, there is no retirement age for private and charter flights. If these pilots are safe enough to transport Hollywood's elite and sports teams around, then it only makes sense that they should be able to transport the American people too. Watch my remarks from the hearing HERE. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Speaks at House Judiciary Committee Markup This week, the House Judiciary Committee Republicans voted to advance the Border Security and Enforcement Act of 2023 after a marathon 12-hour bill markup that began early Wednesday morning and stretched into the evening. I was proud to support this key piece of legislation, which will help to stop the catch and release of illegal aliens, President Biden's illegal parole programs, and asylum abuse. It is time to end Biden's Border Crisis and put the American people first. During the markup, the Judiciary Committee also passed H.J.Res.44, which would prevent the Biden Administration’s Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) from enforcing an unconstitutional pistol brace rule. President Biden’s new rule would reclassify pistols as short-barreled rifles if they have a stabilizing brace attachment, even though many disabled veterans and other Americans rely on these braces to use their firearms. Under this rule, otherwise lawful gun owners could face up to 10 years in jail and thousands of dollars in fines if they fail to register pistols with stabilizing braces with the ATF. If gun owners do not register their firearms, they would have to destroy the firearm, surrender their firearm to the ATF, or remove the brace in such a way that it cannot be reattached. This rule is an abuse of rule-making authority and dangerously violates the Second Amendment. I am a proud cosponsor of this resolution. I will always fight for your Second Amendment right! Watch my remarks about Joe Biden's ATF Director from the markup HERE. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Receives Response from the National Basketball Association (NBA) Recently, I sent a letter to the National Association of Basketball (NBA), along with Senator Rick Scott (R-FL), about Chinese Communist Party (CCP) propaganda being broadcasted and promoted at NBA games. Specifically, a recorded message from the People's Republic of China (PRC) Minister of Foreign Affairs, Qin Gang, was broadcasted at Capital One Arena in our nation's capital. Instead of denouncing the CCP, the NBA claimed that their broadcast of Qin Gang's message was "part of a long tradition of Lunar New Year festivities." The response from the NBA is weak. Communist Chinese propaganda has no place in arenas or anywhere else in our great nation. I will always stand against our nation's greatest adversary, the CCP. Rep. Troy E. Nehls Votes YES to Pass the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act This week, the House of Representatives passed the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act. The Biden Administration’s blatant disregard for Title IX is destroying women’s athletics as we know it. I can't believe this has to be said, but males have no place in female sports. I am proud to stand with my Republican colleagues to ensure that women and girls nationwide have the fair playing field they deserve. This Week in TX-22 Office of Rep. Troy E.
