Daily Docket — Friday, April 21

Here are some updates from the past few days.

• This week, the Texas Senate passed at least nine bills that interfere with election administration or make it harder to vote or register to vote. All of the bills now head to the Republican-controlled Texas House.

• Mississippi Gov. Tate Reeves (R) signed into law a bill that will make it easier to remove voters from the rolls and authorizes the secretary of state to conduct post-election audits in every county.

• New York's highest court dismissed an appeal of a lawsuit challenging the state's Assembly map. This decision confirms that the New York Independent Redistricting Commission must draw a new map and send it to the Legislature for approval, which it did yesterday.

• A one-week jury trial has been scheduled to begin on Aug. 7 to determine the damages imposed on right-wing conspiracy theorists Jacob Wohl and Jack Burkman. A court ruled that the duo’s robocall scheme illegally intimidated Black voters during the 2020 election in violation of the Voting Rights Act.
