On Monday, Ohio Governor Mike DeWine, U.S. Rep. Marcy Kaptur, and members of the Governor?s Cabinet held media availability as they toured Toledo-area medical facilities. The group visited the University of Toledo Medical Center and the Northwest Ohio Psychiatric Hospital.

Also on Monday,?Ohio Lt. Governor Jon Husted provided remarks at the?National Work Zone Safety Awareness Week kickoff event hosted by the?Ohio Laborers? Union and the Ohio State Highway Patrol in Columbus?to bring safety awareness to motorists in preparation for the spring construction season. |
On?Tuesday,?Governor DeWine released a new report that shows initiatives to increase Ohio students? access to services that help prevent or intervene in emotional, behavioral, and mental health disorders have hit a new milestone. The?2020-2021 Prevention Services Data Report?shows that 95% of Ohio schools offered prevention-focused programs and supports, while more than 81% of schools offered prevention-focused curricula.
?Providing students with the tools they need to better cope with life stressors in healthy, safe, supportive ways helps individuals build resiliency and reduces risk factors,? said Governor DeWine.? ?Prevention services are part of educating the whole child, meeting their wellness, as well as their academic needs. This approach sets them up for success throughout their lives.?

Also on Tuesday, Governor DeWine provided updates regarding?remediation work at the site of the Norfolk Southern train derailment in East Palestine?
Governor DeWine met with Norfolk Southern CEO Alan Shaw on Monday to discuss the progress made in East Palestine following the train derailment in February. They discussed the progress of the remediation efforts as well as the opening of the new East Liverpool City Hospital East Palestine Health Clinic. ?
Other work at the site includes hazardous waste removal, operation of the train tracks, examination of test results from the East Palestine municipal drinking water, private well testing, and operation of the East Liverpool City Hospital East Palestine Clinic.

Also on Tuesday, Lt. Governor Husted attended an OhioX event at the Ohio Statehouse.?As Ohio continues to see investments in the tech space, there is a huge responsibility to ensure this technology is used for good and not harm. |
Governor DeWine touring Mount Saint Joseph University
On Wednesday,?Governor DeWine visited Mount Saint Joseph University in?Cincinnati for a literacy event to observe how the Science of Reading is taught to college students majoring in education.

Also on Wednesday,?Governor DeWine delivered remarks at the Easterseals Redwood Beams of Hope Celebration. The celebration was a groundbreaking for the expansion of the facility's?headquarters building, which will be a?state-of-the-art economic empowerment center, to help prepare people with disabilities, veterans, and others for Ohio?s in-demand jobs in construction, logistics, and hospitality. The expansion will also provide a range of services and resources to military veterans, no matter their service record. |
Also on Wednesday, Lt. Governor Husted attended the Ohio Children's Alliance Annual Meeting. He spoke to members about items in the Executive Version of the State Operating Budget that support children from prenatal care through their future careers. |

Lastly, on Wednesday, Lt. Governor Husted spoke with the Youngstown Warren Regional Chamber about how important it is to train Ohio?s students to be career ready to fill the jobs moving to Ohio from the coasts. Workforce is and will continue to be the key to compete and win. |

On Thursday,?and Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction Director Annette Chambers-Smith announced funding support for construction, renovation, and security improvement projects at nearly a dozen local jails in Ohio.?
Governor DeWine announced the grant awards while meeting with community leaders at the Corrections Center of Northwest Ohio (CCNO) in Stryker, Ohio, which serves Williams, Defiance, Fulton, Henry, and Lucas counties. CCNO will receive more than $4.6 million to enhance inmate and staff safety through the installation of secure cell doors in a unit of the jail that houses high-security inmates. Funds will also go toward building an operations center for staff between two minimum-security dorms.?
In total, about $50 million in funding from the Ohio Jail Safety and Security Program will be awarded to 11 county jail projects, including six construction and/or renovation projects.?
?It's critical that our jails are safe and secure,?but it's also important that our jail environments can influence positive change and put inmates on a good path upon release," said Governor DeWine. "With this funding, we're helping these local jails move forward with projects that will allow them to better meet the?demands of our modern criminal justice system and further support the growing number of inmates struggling with substance use and mental health issues."?

Also on Thursday, Governor DeWine traveled?to Paul C. Bunn Elementary School in the Youngstown City School District to?observe classroom activities, discuss how the Science of Reading has been implemented in its lessons, and to hear about the students' experience with it.?
Also on Thursday, Lt. Governor Husted and Second Lady Tina Husted helped announce and celebrate the Boys and Girls Club Alliance's (BGCA) Ohio Youth of the Year Awards. The Youth of the Year shows outstanding leadership, service, academic excellence, and dedication to living a healthy lifestyle. |

Also on Thursday, Ohio First Lady?Fran?DeWine?promoted Dolly Parton?s Imagination Library of Ohio while touring University Hospitals Samaritan Medical Center in Ashland. That evening, she served as the keynote speaker for the Literacy Cooperative?s Read Across America Celebration in Cleveland. |

A team from Ohio EPA's division of surface water completed a third day of fish collection on Wednesday from the North Fork of Little Beaver and the Lower Little Beaver Creeks. The fish tissue will help determine if there is need for fish consumption advisories in these streams.?

On Friday,?Governor DeWine?met with community leaders in Greene County to discuss the $15 million grant recently announced to support the construction of a new jail.?
Also on Friday,?Governor DeWine issued a proclamation recognizing April 22-30 as Ohio State Parks Week, inviting everyone to get outside and enjoy one of the Ohio?s 75 state parks.
