Hi friend —
Yesterday, House Republicans passed a bill to bar trans women and girls from competing on female sports teams in school.
This ban is a clear violation of Title IX. Knowing very well that this bill has no chance of being passed in the Senate or being signed by President Biden, Kevin McCarthy still chose to bring this bill to the House floor for a vote, just to make a political statement.
And that political statement is one of discrimination. These kids are being bullied.
These kinds of bills fuel hatred against transgender children in schools around the country — further putting a community of already vulnerable children at more risk of bullying, depression, and suicide. Trans kids and youth deserve to live authentically and participate with other kids who they identify with.
The truth is, extremists in the House are hell-bent on attacking trans kids for their own political gain. They are trying to put on a facade that they want to be “pro-women," but they don’t give a damn about women or girls. If they did care, they would ban assault weapons, invest in gun violence prevention, and protect access to safe abortions — actions that would actually protect women and girls from danger.
In Congress, I have already made the safety and rights of LGBTQ+ people around the world a personal priority through my bill, The International Human Rights Defense Act. And I promise I’ll continue to do everything in my power to push back against these gross discriminatory assaults against trans Americans.
There’s no doubt I’m making enemies for myself with the extreme far-right. So I need to be ready for whatever smears and attacks they throw at me.
Every donation is an act of hope and defiance. It says you stand with the LGBTQ+ community and puts us that much closer to stopping these hateful attacks against trans Americans.
Thank you for being a part of this team.
