John, 25 years ago today, I was sworn into Congress. There's a lot I can say about this anniversary, but first and foremost, I want to take a moment to personally say thank you. 

Thank you for helping to bring me, once just a young girl from the segregated South who fought to integrate her high school cheer squad, all the way to the U.S. Capitol. 

Thank you for dreaming of a better America with me – one where we as a nation have taken real steps to address racial discrimination, end homelessness and protect reproductive rights.  

And thank you for joining my race for California's Senate seat. Because of this powerful grassroots team, we have given the others in this race a tough fight.

When I was first sworn into Congress, I promised that I would never waver in my fight for justice – and I'm proud to say that I have not broken that promise once. From being the only person in Congress to vote against authorized use of military force in the days following the tragic Sept. 11 attacks
to fighting tirelessly to end poverty in the wealthiest nation in the world, I've never shied away from doing what needs to be done.

John, I'm ready to take my fight for progress to the Senate, but I can only win this race if you're here with me. That's why, in honor of my 25-year congressional anniversary, I set a goal to raise $25,000 to help power my campaign – and I'm counting on you to chip in.
