Meeting with Community Stakeholders 

It is always an honor to welcome my friend University of Rochester President Sarah Mangelsdorf to Washington. Her partnership has been critical as we work to strengthen the accessibility of higher education, bolster high-tech research opportunities, and equip our young people with tools and skills for success. We are fortunate to be home to world-class academic institutions like the University of Rochester and it is always a privilege to learn more about the exciting things their team has in store.

Thanks to companies like Li-Cycle, Rochester is leading the charge to solve our climate crisis, create job opportunities, and strengthen the future of our economy. On Wednesday, I met with my friend CEO Ajay Kochhar and members of the Li-Cycle team to discuss our ongoing work together to cement Rochester's place as a leader in high-tech innovation.

Active and informed participation by citizens of all ages makes our democracy strong, and I’m always excited to meet with the next generation of leaders. On Wednesday, a group of students from Rochester stopped by to discuss the issues facing young people in our community. I know that with inspiring students like this, our future is in good hands!

It was great to meet with my friend Goodwill of the Finger Lakes President and CEO Jennifer Lake in Washington this week! Jen and her team work in our community every day to increase equity, eliminate barriers to success, and ensure everyone has the opportunity to thrive. I'm grateful to have Goodwill as a partner on these important efforts, and I look forward to our continued work together.

 Working to Keep Our Community Safe 

As a member of the House Appropriations Committee, I question experts who come before us during the annual appropriations process. This week, I had the opportunity to speak with Director Dettelbach of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives about the importance of collaboration across all levels of law enforcement as we work to reduce gun violence, stop the flow of illegal weapons onto our streets, and keep our neighborhoods safe.

 Celebrating Earth Day 

Tomorrow is Earth Day! Celebrating our Earth means taking action to protect its long-term vitality, which is why I have long advocated for bold investments in renewable energy, sustainability, and reducing our carbon footprint.

While we have certainly made progress, there is so much more we must do to protect our precious natural resources and safeguard our planet for future generations. I remain committed to advancing solutions that protect our environment from the devastating effects of the climate crisis.

 Congressional Art Competition 

Attention high school students: there is only one week left in the Congressional Art Competition! This is a wonderful opportunity for students from across our community to showcase their amazing talents. The winner of our competition will have their art displayed in the Capitol for one year alongside winners from other Congressional districts across the country.
