My work in TX-31 and Congress   Howdy Texan –  I have spent this week in DC fighting for Texas values, so I wanted to send you a quick update on my work in our community and in Congress. ON THE DOCKET: Pushing back on ATF Fighting for Our Service Members Protecting Women's Sports Deadline Approaching: Congressional Art Competition THE BRIEF: This week marks 100 days of the new House Republican Majority! Republicans have hit the ground running, fulfilling our Commitment to America to build an economy that’s strong, a nation that’s safe, a future built upon freedom, and a government that’s accountable to the American people. Up to 40,000 migrants have amassed in Mexico waiting to cross into the US and officials are worried about the chaos they could cause when Title 42 ends next month. Since President Biden took office in January 2021, he and House Democrats have increased our 10-year spending trajectory by $10 trillion. PUSHING BACK ON ATF During this week’s Commerce, Justice, Science hearing, I questioned the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives Director Steven Dettelbach about significant delays in processing times designed to prevent Americans from exercising their Second Amendment rights. As an American and a Texan, I am a strong supporter of Americans' right to protect themselves. The ATF needs to do their job and reduce the processing times of certain applications. Listen here. FIGHTING FOR OUR SERVICE MEMBERS This week, the Military Construction and Veterans Affairs Appropriations Subcommittee heard from military leaders from the Air Force, Space Force, Navy and Marine Corps to discuss their housing budget requests for the upcoming year. Military construction and family housing makes up about two percent of the Defense budget. Yet, it has a tremendous impact on our service members and their families. Making sure that our service members are living in quality housing, increases readiness and makes for a stronger force. PROTECTION OF WOMEN AND GIRLS IN SPORTS ACT We’re seeing a trend of male athletes identify as females to then go on to compete in athletic spaces designed for biological women. From professional arenas to high school sports, biological men are encroaching on women’s sports to the detriment of women and girls. I voted for the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act this week to protect women’s sports against this woke ideology. Women and girls deserve to compete on a level playing field and have their privacy protected. DEADLINE APPROACHING: CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION The 2023 Congressional Art Competition is here! TX-31 student artists can submit artwork for a chance to have their art displayed in the U.S. Capitol. The deadline to submit art is April 25.
