Earlier this month, the GOP-controlled Tennessee state House expelled two
Black Democratic leaders for peacefully protesting against gun violence
following a horrific school shooting in Nashville. Their white colleague,
who participated in the same protest, was not expelled.

Representative Justin Jones, one of the ousted lawmakers, called it “a
lynch mob assembled — to not lynch me, but our democratic process.”
Indeed, it was a direct threat to the very fabric of our democracy —
handing GOP-controlled state legislatures across the country a playbook to
use when voter suppression and gerrymandering aren’t enough to keep them
in power.

What happened in Tennessee was an attempt to silence us — to silence our
movement. Well , we won’t
be silenced. People For the American Way was on the ground immediately,
calling out this injustice and demanding that voters’ rights be respected.

Your membership allows us to respond to these attacks on democracy in real

People For the American Way went to Tennessee to help Representatives
Justin Jones and Justin Pearson get reinstated. Now, we are staying in
Tennessee because the voting system is broken, and thousands of members
like you are going to help change it.

Since the Republican Party’s attacks on our democracy are not limited to
Tennessee, our work to defend Truth, Justice and the American Way must
extend far beyond the Volunteer State, too.

[ [link removed] ]Your renewal donation today will immediately go to work educating the
public, mobilizing voters, recruiting and training volunteers, and
building grassroots power in key cities and states across the country.

People For the American Way is uniquely positioned to lead — and win — in
this moment. But we’re only as powerful as the support we receive from
members like you. Many of our donations come from people chipping in what
they can, mostly in response to emails like this one.

[ [link removed] ]So please, renew your membership with a
gift today and claim
your very own Congressional Directory for the 118th Congress.  >>
