Weekly Newsletter: Politicians need to put aside the partisanship and put the country first.

Hi Friend,

No Labels poked the partisan bear in Washington by proudly announcing that we were laying the groundwork for a unity ticket in next year’s election. As a result, the very worst of the extremists and troublemakers here in the nation’s capital turned their attention on us to try and scare us into silence.

But as new op-eds from two of our movement’s leaders show, we believe in this mission, and we’re not backing down just because of some Twitter trolls.

First, here’s No Labels co-founder and national co-chair, former Sen. Joe Lieberman (I-CT), whose op-ed for CNN ([link removed] ) talks about our movement’s work to get ballot access in all 50 states so that a unity ticket has the option to compete across the nation:

"When Ralph Nader ran for president in 2000, he offered a simple rationale for a bid that would ultimately help “spoil” ([link removed] )  the election for the Democratic ticket I was privileged to be on with Al Gore. In Nader’s view, the two parties were ideologically indistinguishable…Today, of course, no one can reasonably argue that the two parties aren’t ideologically distinct. The core problem in Washington, DC, is that they’re too divided to get much done…Today, No Labels ([link removed] ) , a nonprofit organization that I co-chair, is laying the groundwork for such a campaign in 2024…If we are successful, a unity ticket — comprised of one Democrat and one Republican — could be presented to voters right next to the Republican and Democratic nominees."

And here’s what No Labels co-founder and strategist Holly Page had to say in an op-ed for The Hill ([link removed] ) aimed directly at the partisan nay-sayers who are trying to belittle No Labels into backing down from trying to change the status quo in American politics:

"The false choices, scare tactics and bullying only reinforce to the exhausted commonsense majority that the extremes have zero tolerance for anyone who doesn’t think exactly like they do. Only 100 percent adherence to their orthodoxy is acceptable, and instead of using persuasion to achieve consensus, they take to social media to scare and fundraise. The irony is that the nation was founded by people who didn’t agree on anything except the principle of liberty. Group think is the most Un-American concept of all."

We’re so proud of our leaders for showing such incredible backbone by standing up to say what we all know is right and true. Give the pieces a read and share with your friends to show your support for No Labels.

In other news, here at No Labels HQ, one of the newest pieces of décor is a countdown timer that’s currently showing 358 days – that’s how long we have until our landmark convention in Dallas where we stand up for our nation and declare with one voice that partisanship will no longer hold our nation back from solving the problems that need solved. It’s also the date where we’ll hand off the baton to a unity ticket presidential campaign should the country still need one.

Between now and then, we’re going to need all hands on deck to keep making the case as to why American voters deserve the greater choice at the ballot box that we know we all want.

You can help right now by clicking here ([link removed] ) to answer one simple question: Do you support working together and compromising to get things done? Or do you prefer partisan inaction?

No Labels is making history, and we want you to be part of it! We're working hard to build the launching pad for a potential independent Unity presidential ticket – featuring one Democrat and one Republican – in 2024. Forces within the two major parties have already registered their objections to this project, but they're only displaying a disconnect with how the country feels.

Five Facts about Independent Voters ([link removed] )

While Washington, D.C. often sees things only in shades of Republican red or Democratic blue, beyond the Beltway, American voters have a different view. Both of the two major political parties are disliked by a majority of Americans, and choosing to identify as an independent is becoming more and more popular. Here are Five Facts about independent voters in America.

Defaulting on the U.S. debt is way worse than you think ([link removed] )

If you’ve ever fallen behind on payments, you know that can dent your credit score and lead to all kinds of trouble. Many lenders might refuse to work with you, while others could charge higher rates for credit cards, mortgages, car notes, and other loans. Well, governments can run into the same sort of trouble if they don’t pay their bills. Learn what happens if the U.S. government defaults.

No Labels Bicameral Update

At this month's No Labels bicameral meeting, nearly a dozen of our allies in the House and Senate came together to discuss the Problem Solvers Caucus's new debt ceiling proposal and the need for bipartisan immigration reform to address the crisis at the border. The bipartisan problem solvers committed to working together across the aisle to fight for a realistic solution to solving the debt ceiling crisis and warned against fiscal brinskmanship in the name of partisan sparring.
