Debt Ceiling Drama Continues 💸

It feels a lot like déjà vu!

The debt ceiling is a conversation we keep having over and over as my Democrat colleagues continue to spend money like drunken sailors.

House Speaker Kevin McCarthy just unveiled his plan to address the never-ending debacle, but here's the thing: It doesn’t go far enough. I echo the sentiments of many fellow Republicans when I say this madness ends here. I want to see some real restraints and fiscal cuts. 

Let’s do a little inventory check on the frivolous federal spending already in the works AND coming down the pipeline:

• We’ve got unspent COVID-19 relief funds sitting in state bank accounts.
• There are safety net programs that continue to fund able-bodied people who don’t even have kids. Consider the fact that 10% of food stamps are used for soft drinks. What’s wrong with that picture? 
• Next up, President Biden’s student loan forgiveness plan will spend money like water to relieve grown adults of paying back money they chose to borrow.

I’m not trying to be a troublemaker. I just want America to get off this gravy train. I will continue to speak up and demand aggressive cuts. Someone has to—or we’re headed for a debt-induced catastrophe.

I recently had the opportunity to throw out the first pitch for South-Doyle High School in Knoxville, and I must say, I think I nailed it.

I enjoy every chance I get to meet the fantastic young folks of Tennessee who will undoubtedly be our future leaders. I’d like to thank them for a wonderful afternoon out on the mound, especially because it was a good warm-up for the Congressional Baseball Game.

You can catch me bringing the heat with my fellow Republicans in June as we raise money for charity and crush our opponents on Team Democrat.
