I spent formative years of my life on my grandparents’ rice farm in rural Japan.

But my courageous mother wanted a better life for us.

She brought us to the United States hoping for a better future.

Today, I am proud to be able to serve in the United States Senate, and am thankful for my mother's courage and perseverance.

John, the past few years haven’t been the easiest.

Since the beginning of the pandemic, the ugly pattern of racism and violence against Asian Americans has continued to rise.

We have to speak up and speak out against the actions of those who insist on scapegoating AAPI communities as the "other."
