Last week, NIAC initiated legal efforts to demand a retraction, correction, and apology from Voice of America following the airing of a program by VOA Farsi that falsely defamed NIAC, as well as The New York Times , Iranian-American journalists, and Americans detained in Iran, as "lobbyists for the Islamic Republic".
VOA has now removed this shameful broadcast from its online platforms. This is a big win, but far more must be done to correct the record . B efore we go into more details, we're asking our top supporters to chip in $40 or more today to bolster our efforts to crackdown on disinformation.

This broadcast was just the latest episode in a broader disinformation campaign to intimidate Iranian Americans into a false choice : either buy-in to vile and outrageous conspiracy theories about people and organizations who have worked against war and broad sanctions, or withdraw from public debate entirely.
We reject these false options for our organization and for our community. This is not how democracy works. We will not waver in our conviction that Iranian Americans, just like everyone else, deserve a politics and civic life that is a marketplace of ideas, not a scorched earth battlefield in which might makes right.
We will always stand for the right of all people to debate and disagree. We will always side with the right of all people to express their views without being defamed or threatened, whether or not we agree with them. For all of us who aspire for a democratic Iran, it is imperative that we engage democratically here in the United States and reject disinformation and defamation that are the hallmarks of authoritarianism.
